The cylinder block and cylinder head are key engine components. Proper daily maintenance is required to avoid cracking. Here are solutions if cracks occur:
Do not operate the engine under overload for a long time, as it causes excessive thermal stress on the cylinder block.
Do not add cold water suddenly when the cylinder is at high temperature. If the engine is short of water during operation, wait for it to cool down before refilling to prevent cracking caused by excessive temperature difference.
Clean scale in water jackets in a timely manner. Excessive scale reduces cooling water flow and heat dissipation efficiency. Once water channels between cylinders or valve seats are blocked, local overheating and excessive thermal stress will cause cracks.
Do not run the engine at high speed immediately after starting, so as to avoid increased load on the cylinder block due to crankshaft vibration, which may cause cracks in weak areas.
Use the accelerator properly. Avoid sudden throttling at any time. Adjust engine power reasonably through the accelerator to prevent long‑term high‑speed and overload operation.
Drain all cooling water when parking outdoors at night in cold winter. If the engine is hard to start, preheat with hot water first. Drain water completely for long‑term temporary parking. If water is not drained, start the engine periodically to maintain proper temperature.
